UK fires starting gun on race to ‘zero emission’ economy

Government ministers are calling time on the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions by tasking climate experts (21)__________finding a path to a net zero emission economy.

The committee on climate change is (22)__________to strengthen the UK’s existing 2050 target to drive emissions down by 80pc from levels in 1990.

The new target is likely to spur action to find low-carbon alternatives for British manufacturing, transport and heating in what ministers believe is “one of the greatest industrial (23)__________of our time”.

The UK has already cut is emission by over 40pc from 1990 levels, while the economy has grown by over 60pc but new policies will be needed to go further, said the Confederation of British Industry.
